Three ways to play

Pick the kind of table that suits you.

Open play

Self-directed play for players who know the rules and are ready to dive in. You and your tablemates run the game, and we provide the space, the tiles, and the company.

When: Tuesday through Saturday, with morning, afternoon, and evening sessions. Each session runs 2 hours.

For experienced players

Guided open play

A relaxed table in The Mockingbird with an instructor close by, for the moments you want a second opinion, a strategy check, or a reminder on the Charleston.

When: Every Tuesday at 12 PM, plus select Fridays at 4 PM and Saturdays at 12 PM. Each session runs 2 hours.

For players who like a little backup

Leagues

A season of weekly play with standings, prizes, and fresh opponents every week. Our first, the Mingle Jingle Holiday League, runs this November and December, with a Tuesday evening and a Wednesday morning league. Ten percent of every registration goes to the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro's Thanksgiving Fund.

When: Tuesdays, 6:00 to 8:30 PM, November 10 through December 15, or Wednesdays, 10 AM to 12 PM, November 11

Good to know

Who is open play for?

Players who already know how to play American mahjong by NMJL rules. New to the game? Start with Mahjong 101 and you will be ready for open play in no time.

How do I book a seat?

Choose a session on our schedule and reserve your seat online. Members book the same way, and their membership covers the session.

Do I need to bring tiles or a card?

No tiles needed. Every table is set with our collection of luxury tiles. Bring your current-year NMJL card if you have one. We'll have a limited number available to borrow or purchase.

Can I play with friends?

Of course. Tables seat four, so let us know if you'd like to sit together. Members also get guest passes each month to bring someone along.

How do leagues work?

You sign up solo for a full season. We shuffle the tables every week, and standings are based on total points across the season. If you can't make a week, you can send a sub with at least 24 hours' notice.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancellations made 7 or more days before your session are eligible for a full refund. Inside that window, we're happy to transfer your spot to another player. Just email hello@theminglestudio.com.

Pull up a chair.

Find a session that fits your week, or become a member and make open play part of your routine.
